Ducati Monster 620 S.i.e.

When the Ducati Monster came on the market in 1993, I dreamed of owning this bike. ... This dream became reality in 2003. The design of the monster is now more than 10 years old and for me the most beautiful 'Roadster' on the market.. Some parts had to be changed, more details in the following lines.S

September 2003

Finally! It is so far, on the 13th (Saturday) September 2003, I picked up my Monster from the dealer. I could ride the bike before, but the stupid EEC certificate was missing and without this certificate isn't possible to register the bike. I can remember the first time I saw my Monsters in the showroom, I asked permission to put me on it. The merchant responds with a grin: The machine is yours!

The significance of the number plate 'D 4112' is the birth of my son, born on 4 November 2002. The 'D' stands for his Name "David" ...

Late 2003

If the design has not changed much over the last 10 years, the Monster was produced in the current state of technology and new versions and engines came on the market. I've decided to buy the 620 cc version because for me as a newcomer was the 63 hp enough, which anyway was throttled for 2 years to 34 hp. The 'S' Version had some parts more than the normal 620 ie, like the wind shield, rear seat cover, carbon side panels, aluminum swing arm, etc ... Soon comes the winter and the first parts will be remouved...

Winter 2003 - 2004

I already knew what needed to be replaced but by what parts and form was still unclear. Sure was the tail must be reduced and all the plastic parts had to be replaced by carbon.

During the winter break so I have shortened the tail by 7cm with Flex, of course I insist on clean work and the frame has been treated against rust at this point! The first carbon parts have been installed: a short tail and the pinion cover. The large and long turn signals were replaced by smaller ones in carbon look with white glass and I removed the front wind shield. The Monster already looks much more aggressive ...

Season 2004

During the 2004 season some more carbon parts was installed: front lamp holder, rear fender in the 'Shorty' execution and a front fender in 996 style. Over a French used parts market on the Internet, I found a couple of brand new Termignoni silencers with very low kilometrage and fair selling price. And so I made my way to France to pick up these mufflers ...

Winter 2004 - 2005

The front fender in 996 style had to be replaced because I don't really like the form. At the Intermot in Germany, I had the opportunity to see some interesting parts for the Monster and so I ordered a new front fender in the 'Performance' execution and belt covers. Of course, both parts in carbon fiber. The original mirrors in 'Mickey Mouse ears' shape was replaced by the very small 'Dynamic' mirrors from Rizoma.

As on the 620 S.i.e. all brake parts are mounted in the 'Oro' series, except brake and clutch master cylinder, I wondered whether the exchange of this black master cylinder are possible through the beautiful golden 'PS' pumps? I have acquired both pumps on eBay and the modification can be started. There was no problems, all parts fit together perfectly. I made this exchange purely for aesthetic. Excepting the adjustable levers, I don't have technical advantage (pump diameter are the same on both version). Brake and clutch system still bleeding and the Monster is ready for the next bike season ...

Season 2005

At the beginning of the season, where the weather wasn't good, I took the opportunity to remove the wheels and let a professional polish the rim edges.. The polished rim edges fit perfectly with the other polished parts on the bike, like the handlebars and headlight ring and the entire look of the bike, remained discreet. During the year, I installed some new aluminum parts: footrests and handlebar end from Rizoma and 7 frame caps from STM. The small carbon-look turn signals were replaced by even more smaller LED turn signals from Kellerman. These signals are tiny but have an extremely bright flashes and are allowed on the road for front and rear side. Suitable I have replaced the red tail light with a white one in LED technology.

The Monster needed a little more sound! Because one day I was standing at the traffic light next to a Ducati 996 with open exhaust ... through the mega sound of the 996 I don't heard the sound of my machine! Unfortunately the DB-Eater in my Termignoni system are fixed and can't be removed. So I sell my silencer and replace them with brand-new Ducati Performance Mufflers. In fact the optic don't change, only the sound! The new silencer had no DB Eater and therefore also not street legal. An Ducati Performance air filter and an open air filter cover has been provided with the silencer. The sound is now perfect ...

Winter 2005 - 2006

The Ducati Performance mufflers stayed not mounted very long. No, it has nothing to do with the police but somehow I was bothered by the fact that I can't mount a DB-Eater. Again, I have sold the exhaust and this time it had to be something new. The decision was made quickly and in the winter break, I bought on eBay a brand new round and high version exhaust system from Sil Motor with removable DB-Eater.

I also have ordered a carbon holder for high version exhaust. I always hesitated to buy a high exhaust system, because I was afraid the mufflers would affect the turn signals or the number plate. All fear was in vain, the Sil-motor system fit perfectly. The last carbon parts were also installed: Ignition lock cover, lower baffle and headlights pot ...

Season 2006

At the beginning of the season, at the annual inspection, the chain was replaced to improve the appearance of these parts. A gold chain with black chain sprocket was mounted. When I was a member of the Ducati Club Luxembourg, I modified the holder of my number plate and stuck with red reflective foil the word 'Ducaticlub.lu' on it.

All I have done this season on my Monster. I invested many in this bike and now I own my dream bike ...

Winter 2007 - 2008

Well ... it's still happening. After four and a half years and 24,000 km unforgettable ride, I've decided to sell my Monster. Finally I have sold my Monster in March 2008 ... I'll see her again, because the new owner is also a members in the Ducati Club ;-)
